Roy Howard is a dominant figure in American journalism in the first half of the 20th century. He started his newspaper career as a delivery boy for the Indianapolis Star and News. He soon became reporter and in 1930 he started buying up newspapers for himself.
Howard obtained several history-making interviews. In 1916 he published an interview with Britain's Minister for War David Lloyd George (PICTURE RIGHT), who warned, "The fight must go to a finish — to a knock-out".
It was cabled around the world and almost overnight put an end to the growing peace movement in Europe, America and elsewhere.
