The last picture of Faisal, King of Iraq

King Faisal died suddenly and mysteriously on 7th September 1933 in the Swiss capital of Bern. After making a short car trip he returned to his hotelroom. One hour later the king, not yet 50 years old, was dead. The first person to enter that room, hotelmanager Eggiman, died later that day.

There was no autopsy conducted. Instead Faisal's body was balsemed. A British warship brought the body to Haifa and from there it was flown to Baghdad. Faisal's unexperienced son Prince Ghazi (20) was proclaimed king. Ghazi died shortly before the outbreak of World War II, in 1939, in an enigmatic car-accident.
